The Renowned Musician Urges Public Help to Propel Palestinian Solidarity Song to UK Christmas No 1.
A fundraising initiative is aiming to launch a Palestinian lullaby to the Christmas number one spot. The project hopes to provide aid to Gaza's residents while also showcasing Palestinian culture and creativity.
An Opportunity for Support and an "Unlikely Coup"
Musician and artist Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a chance to stand with Palestinians during the holidays. He remarked the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“That would be amazing if that happened, yes,” he commented. “I’m not gonna be completely disappointed if it doesn’t, Christmas singles are a unique phenomenon.”
Powerful Theme of Self-Determination
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the adaptation of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's powerful central theme.
“The song holds a profound significance for countless listeners,” Barghouti shared. “It’s basically saying that I would prefer a dignified death than spend my life without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we want to live a dignified life that we merit as a people.”
Recording Origins and Contributing Musicians
The single was laid down in the wake of a solidarity show held in the autumn. First conceived to be captured during the live event, the rendition was omitted from the lengthy event due to scheduling overruns.
The diverse array of artists contributing to Lullaby encompasses a range of well-known figures from the industry. All were part of the September show, which successfully generated a substantial amount for humanitarian aid.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was crafted by a trio of talented individuals. The single blends a mix of the traditional Arabic lyrics with new English lyrics.
The group managing the campaign have stated that their goal is to collect the highest amount for a charitable pot. These resources will be distributed to Palestinian causes through an non-profit partner.
“We haven't set a fixed goal,” a spokesperson commented. “We will pursue the maximum achievable. Of course, the greater the amount, the better. It all goes out to those in need in Gaza.”
The context in the territory was noted for its widespread damage, with a vast majority of infrastructure reportedly destroyed or damaged.
“Given that reality, a few million doesn’t make an enormous impact. But I think what does make a difference is first of all raising awareness for this issue and demonstrating that another narrative exists.”
The single 'Lullaby' is launching on Friday. Additionally, a complete film of the solidarity show will be made ready to watch on a popular streaming site from later in the month.
